Champions 2010

The Phx All Star Team won the National Championship tournament Friday, December 10th, 2010.

The Phx All Star Team went 3-0 in the tournament and won it all. The boys from Wolfpack had some great plays throughout the tournament with Daniel Stanek running in a fumble for a touchdown. Connor Nelson and Jeff Hicks were book end tackles and handled the defensive lineman amazingly. Rami Chamnmas was a beast on defense and Branson Tibbs caught the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Championship game.

Wolfpack Football would like to congratulate Douglas Swanitz & Tyler Whiley of the Jr. Midget Black Team for being selected to the Phoenix All Star Team!

Both players were nominated by their Head Coach Mike Mattson, for their outstanding play this season. This gave both players the opportunity to participate in a combine, and a week of full contact practice against a field of over 100 other 8th grade players from around the valley within CAYFL. The coaches of the All Star Team, had to evaluate all of the talent, and finalize their roster with 34 of the best players in the Valley.

The team traveled to Orlando Florida and played games the week of December 5-12 against other All Star Teams from around the country. The Phoenix All Stars first faced Florida, and won the game rather convincingly, by a score of 28-12
Our next game was vs Middle Connecticut, and proved to be a much tougher challenge, with the Phoenix team coming out on top 10-8. These two victories set us up to play in the All Star Championship against Chicago. The game was hard fought in the first half with a score of 0-0. Phoenix scored 14 points in the 3rd quarter, but Chicago would come back to tie the score in the 4th quarter. With only 36 seconds left to play, Chicago moved the ball to the 18 yard line, and kicked the go-ahead, and winning field goal.

It was a great trip for all involved. Many players who only knew each other by way of regular season competition, and by jersey number, had become friends.

Wolfpack is extremely proud to have Douglas and Tyler represent our association on the national level, and we look forward to having more of our players make the All Star Team, as our association continues to grow and produce fine athletes.
